Robert Scoble is leaving Microsoft to tackle a new challenge. Silicon Valley Watcher, Tom Foremski, broke the story. Robert did more in his three years at Microsoft to improve the corporate image than any one I know. In his own unique way he put a friendly, honest, and responsive face on Microsoft. No one can replace Robert Scoble, although there are many bloggers at Microsoft who will do their best.
Microsoft was lucky to have Robert for three years. PodTech is lucky to get him. Robert will bring attention to podcasting like no one else can. Maybe he can fix some of the things outlined in "The problem with podcasts and web video" I am sure Robert will do everything possible to make PodTech, and podcasting in general, successful.
I have joined and left five start-ups in my career. It is a natural evolution for a start-up type person in the tech world. Robert is one of those people who always needs a new challenge, a new environment, a new set of competitors, and a new set of goals. I know the type. They give 100% of everything they have to their mission, and when its done they look for another challenging mission. It doesn't mean that the company has stopped growing. It just means that we have added everything we can, the mission can run on its own, and there is nothing new to learn. Time to move to the next challenge and learning opportunity.
Good luck to you Robert. You will be missed and always remembered. And if you ever want to come back...I'm sure Microsoft can find a new challenge for you.
