Internet Explorer 6.0 launched in August of 2001, more than 8 years ago. Microsoft’s current version is IE 8. Web developers have complained for years about needing to support multiple versions of browsers and the security risks in older browsers. Older browsers don’t support new features, particularly around voice and video. In a move to encourage users to upgrade to modern browser versions Google Apps announced they will stop supporting IE 6 effective March 1, 2010. The feedback from developers was immediate and overwhelmingly positive. Microsoft itself will end support for IE 6 on July 13, 2010.

The breakout is as follows; IE8 22%, IE7 15%, and IE6 20%, older variants 5%.
