Google+ is Google's new social layer for the web, and it is growing like wildfire. Some estimates say 10 million users in the first 10 days, and 20 million by the end of the week. Google+ grows virally by users inviting their friends. But, ironically, Facebook and Twitter are spreading the word about Google+ even faster.
Those are amazing numbers for the first week, and the numbers are still accelerating. Paul Allen calculated that Google+ added 2.2 million users in the last 32 hours. The prediction by Bill Gross that Google+ will grow to 100 million users faster than any application in history, looks pretty solid.
But, to put these numbers in perspective, Facebook has an estimated 700 million users and Twitter has about 200 million accounts. Ironically, those 700 million Facebook users and 200 million Twitter users are accelerating the growth of Google+ in a way that would not have been possible five years ago. Maybe waiting a while to introduce Google+ wasn't such a bad idea.
To get an idea of how Google+ works check out my Google+ profile. There is still a lot left to do, and many features to be added to Google+. But, for a first effort, and after just a week of usage, I am giving Google+ and A+.
